Screen Sharing Issues on Mac

Have you ever been in a Phound meeting, attempting to share your screen, only to hear your colleagues say, "We can’t see your screen"? It can be frustrating, especially when you're trying to present important information. Fortunately, there's a simple solution to this common problem.

Understanding the Issue: Mac's Screen Recording Permissions

Mac computers have strong security settings designed to protect your privacy. If you don't grant screen recording permissions to Phound when you first start using it, macOS will restrict the app from sharing anything other than itself. This is why your colleagues do not see what you intended to show.

How to Grant Screen Recording Access to Phound

Follow these steps to enable screen sharing in Phound:

  1. Open System Settings

Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings.

  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security

In the sidebar on the left (you may need to scroll down), click on Privacy & Security.

  3. Access Screen & System Audio Recording

Scroll down and select Screen & System Audio Recording.

  4. Authorize Phound

Find Phound in the list and toggle it on to grant permission. If Phound isn't listed, click the Add button, navigate to your Applications folder, and select Phound. You can find Phound in your Applications folder located in your home directory (NOT in the root directory where most applications are located)

  5. Restart Phound

Close and reopen the Phound app to ensure the new settings take effect. If you are already in the meeting - you may skip this step for now and restart it AFTER the meeting.

  6. Share Your Screen

Return to your meeting and try sharing your screen again. Your colleagues should now see everything you're presenting.

Helpful Tips

  • Watch for Prompts: When using new applications like Phound, pay attention to permission requests when you first start using the app and approve them as needed.

  • Regularly Review Permissions: It's a good practice to periodically check your Privacy & Security settings to ensure your apps have the necessary permissions.

Conclusion

By adjusting your screen recording permissions, you're allowing Phound to share your screen properly. This simple fix can enhance your meeting experience and ensure your presentations go smoothly.

Feel confident in your next Phound meeting, knowing that your screen sharing will work as intended.
