Phound Acceptable Use Policy
Calling, Messaging, and Number Usage · Last Updated: May 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) describes what counts as fair and acceptable use of Phound’s calling, messaging, and number services. It supplements the Phound Terms of Service and is incorporated by reference into your agreement with us. Where this AUP conflicts with the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service control.
1. What “unlimited” calling means
Where Phound describes calling as “unlimited,” this refers to standard person-to-person and business calling to and within the destinations listed for your plan (for example, the United States, Canada, and Mexico for most plans). “Unlimited” is subject to fair use as described below and excludes:
- Calls to premium-rate, access-stimulation, or revenue-share destinations (including but not limited to certain rural rate centers, conference services, and chat lines)
- Calls to destinations Phound has identified as high-cost or high-risk (a current list is available at phound.app/restricted-destinations and may be updated from time to time)
- Calls placed using automated dialers, scripts, or other non-human means
- Calls forwarded outside the Phound network using third-party devices or services as a primary or sustained pattern that effectively transfers your Phound calling allowance to non-Phound users
- Concurrent outbound calling beyond the limits included with your plan. Each plan includes a maximum number of simultaneous outbound calls; additional concurrent capacity is available on higher-tier plans, with verified add-ons, or via Enterprise arrangements
2. Prohibited uses
You agree not to use Phound services to:
- Engage in traffic pumping, access stimulation, or international revenue share fraud (IRSF), including any arrangement under which you receive direct or indirect compensation, kickbacks, or revenue share tied to the volume or duration of traffic you generate
- Configure call routing, IVR, call flow, or forwarding features to relay inbound traffic to external destinations as part of any arrangement that generates revenue tied to call volume or duration, including third-party services, affiliate programs, or kickback schemes
- Operate or facilitate high-volume commercial call center operations, auto-dialers, robo-dialing, predictive dialers, or high-volume outbound campaigns without an approved Business or Enterprise plan and applicable carrier compliance
- Make calls of artificial or excessive duration designed to inflate billable minutes, including extended calls to free or low-cost conference services, chat lines, or other destinations funded by carrier access fees
- Generate repetitive calls to the same number or small set of numbers in patterns inconsistent with ordinary use
- Add or maintain phone lines, numbers, or accounts primarily for the purpose of increasing concurrent outbound calling capacity to circumvent the limits of your plan, including patterns where multiple lines or accounts are coordinated to generate aggregate traffic that would otherwise require a higher-tier plan or add-on
- Resell, share, or otherwise transfer Phound calling capacity to users outside your account, including by forwarding inbound calls to external destinations as a substitute for those users having their own Phound service
- Share login credentials or allow multiple individuals to use a single Phound account. Each account is licensed for use by a single individual. Teams requiring multiple users should subscribe to the appropriate number of seats on the applicable plan
- Place calls in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CAN-SPAM, or other applicable telecommunications laws
3. Prohibited messaging uses
Phound messaging services (including SMS, MMS, in-app messaging, and Phound Wave) are subject to all applicable laws and carrier policies. You agree not to use Phound messaging services to:
- Send unsolicited bulk messages (spam), including commercial messages to recipients who have not opted in to receive them
- Send messages that contain phishing links, malware, or content designed to deceive recipients into revealing personal information, credentials, or financial data
- Send messages that impersonate another person, business, or organization, or that misrepresent the origin or purpose of the communication
- Operate automated messaging campaigns or bots without an approved Business or Enterprise plan and applicable carrier compliance, including 10DLC and/or TCR registration where required by carriers
- Send messages to numbers obtained through scraping, purchased lists, or any other method that does not involve direct, verifiable consent from the recipient
- Use Phound messaging to circumvent carrier filtering, blocklists, or deliverability controls
- Send messages that violate the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CAN-SPAM Act, or other applicable messaging and privacy regulations
Phound may monitor messaging patterns for compliance with carrier policies and applicable law. Accounts found to be in violation may have messaging capabilities suspended or terminated without prior notice.
4. Number usage and retention
Phone numbers provisioned on your account are licensed for active use. Phound reserves the right to reclaim numbers that remain unused (no inbound or outbound activity) for 90 or more consecutive days. Before reclaiming a number, Phound will notify you via email and in-app notification and provide at least 14 days to reactivate the number or contact support.
Acquiring and holding numbers without active use (number hoarding or squatting) is prohibited. Phound may, at its discretion, limit the number of phone numbers that can be added to an account based on plan tier, account age, and demonstrated usage patterns.
5. Fair use thresholds
Even where calling or messaging is described as “unlimited,” ordinary individual or business use is expected. The following may indicate non-ordinary use and result in additional review, rate limits, verification requirements, or service suspension:
- Sustained outbound calling or messaging usage materially in excess of typical accounts on your plan
- Concentrated traffic to a small number of destinations inconsistent with ordinary calling or messaging patterns
- Calls or messages aggregating to durations or volumes typical of automated or commercial dialing/messaging operations
- Sustained operation at or near your plan’s concurrent outbound call limit, particularly to a small set of destinations or via automated routing
- Number of lines or numbers maintained on a single account significantly exceeding the operational needs of the account holder
- Patterns suggesting forwarding, routing, or aggregation of traffic on behalf of third parties
Phound publishes typical-use guidance for each plan at phound.app/fair-use. If your legitimate business need exceeds these thresholds, our Business plan offers higher concurrent capacity per seat, and the Community Caller add-on provides additional capacity for verified organizations. Enterprise plans offer custom limits and dedicated capacity. Verified nonprofit and community organizations may qualify for discounted pricing.
6. International calling
International calling (outside your plan’s included destinations) is metered and billed from a prepaid balance unless you have purchased an International Calling add-on or are on an Enterprise plan with negotiated rates. Some destinations are restricted by default and require verification before they can be enabled on your account. Restricted destinations include those identified as high-risk for fraud or subject to regulatory blocking.
To request access to a restricted destination, contact support at phound.app/support. Requests are reviewed individually and typically processed within 2 business days.
7. Verification and review
Phound may, at any time and at its discretion:
- Request identity, business, or payment verification before enabling or continuing certain services
- Apply temporary rate limits, daily caps, or destination restrictions to new accounts, accounts exhibiting anomalous activity, or accounts on which payment methods have not been fully verified
- Apply concurrent call limits to accounts based on plan, account verification status, and observed usage patterns
- Suspend or terminate calling or messaging to specific destinations, or require prepayment for such services, in response to usage patterns or external fraud signals
These measures are applied based on observed usage and account characteristics, not on the geographic location, nationality, religion, or other personal characteristics of the account holder.
8. Community and nonprofit organizations
Verified community organizations (religious, nonprofit, civic) may qualify for:
- The Community Caller add-on for higher concurrent calling capacity
- Discounted pricing on Business seats and the Community Caller add-on
- Explicit use-case documentation so that trust and safety teams recognize the expected calling pattern and do not inadvertently flag legitimate activity
Verification is light-touch: organization name, EIN or local equivalent, a brief use-case description, and payment in good standing. Contact phound.app/community to apply.
9. Enforcement
Phound reserves the right to enforce this policy through any combination of the following measures, with or without prior notice depending on severity:
- Notification and request for explanation
- Temporary rate limits, destination restrictions, or feature suspension
- Requirement for additional verification or plan upgrade
- Account suspension or termination
- Reclamation of phone numbers
Phound will endeavor to apply enforcement proportionally, starting with the least restrictive measure appropriate to the situation. Immediate suspension or termination without prior notice may occur in cases of clear fraud, illegal activity, or activity causing harm to the Phound network or its users.
10. If you think we got it wrong
We try to err on the side of keeping legitimate users connected. If we have restricted your account or a destination you need and you believe it was applied in error, please contact support at phound.app/support. We aim to respond within 2 business days and, where appropriate, will restore access — sometimes with additional verification, sometimes with a path to a plan better suited to your usage.
11. Changes to this policy
Phound may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and/or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Phound services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
